In episode 111 of The Just Checking In Podcast, we checked in with Deborah Powney. Deborah is a Final Year PHD Candidate in Psychology and is a mature academic researcher and research psychologist specialising in impact and recovery in male and female victims of partner abuse and coercive control. In Part 1 of Deborah's episode, we talk about her experience of being domestically abused by her first husband over a five and a half year period.We discuss how she was abused and her husband's narcissistic personality disorder. We explore the PTSD the abuse left her with after she escaped the marriage and the post-traumatic growth she enjoyed in the years that followed. We also discuss the grief she went through in losing both her parents and her brother to suicide.
