In episode 118 we checked in with academic Sophie Marsh. Sophie is an Associate Lecturer in Criminology & Law. She did a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Criminology and Law at the University of the West of England and graduated with First Class Honours in the summer of 2019.She is currently doing her PhD on the attrition of rape and the effects of rape myth acceptance and is also the founder of Soph Talks, a platform which discusses issues including criminal justice, human rights, mental health and sustainability.In this episode we discuss Sophie’s academic journey, the imposter syndrome she had transitioning from student to lecturer, work-life balance and the impact that Covid-19 had on her career. We also discuss Soph Talks and the positive impact it’s had on her authors and her own mental health in educating her about issues she hadn’t previously known about. We then have a discussion about sexual violence against women, the awareness campaigns currently out there and why they need to be much better than they currently are.
