Kansas Weather 3/6 Morning - Red Flag Warning
from The Kansas Weather Podcast
Good morning. Kansas. I'm Aaron Jolly. Half an inch of rain fell overnight. And that drizzle you're feeling? Just the warm-up act. The real show kicks off this afternoon when a powerful cold front slams into Kansas, bringing severe weather and a dramatic temperature crash. Northeast Kansas faces the highest threat today. Thunderstorms roll through this morning before 11 A.M., with a 70 percent chance of storms packing gusty winds and small hail. Highs reach 73 degrees, but south winds gust to 32 miles an hour. Tonight's the main event. Storms fire up again between 7 P.M. and 2 A.M. and these pack a punch — damaging winds, heavy rain. And possible tornadoes. Temperatures crash to 42 degrees behind the front. South Central Kansas stays mostly cloudy today, hitting 71 degrees with breezy south winds gusting to 36 miles an hour. The severe threat holds off until tonight, when scattered storms develop between 7 P.M. and midnight. Lows drop to 37 degrees. Western Kansas sees partly sunny skies and a high near 73 degrees, with the strongest winds — southwest gusts to 40 miles an hour. A slight chance of rain showers develops after 3 P.M., but the main cold front arrives tonight, dropping temperatures to 30 degrees. Saturday brings relief. Sunshine returns statewide with highs in the mid-50s. Sunday warms quickly to the upper 60s — perfect for getting outside. Monday soars into the mid-70s with continued sunshine. But Tuesday brings round two. Another storm system tracks into Kansas, bringing a 60 to 70 percent chance of thunderstorms and possibly severe weather again. Stay weather aware today, folks. If you're heading out this afternoon or evening, keep an eye on the sky and have a way to get warnings. See you tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast See you tomorrow.
