Kansas Weather 3/8 Morning - 29° Above Normal

from The Kansas Weather Podcast

Good morning. Kansas. I'm Michael Nally. Step outside and you'll feel that crisp 35 degrees. Enjoy it. Because we're about to flip the script. Kansas is gearing up for one of the warmest stretches we've seen this early in March. Today? Pure sunshine statewide. Down in Wichita, you're climbing to 69 degrees. Kansas City hits 68. Out west in Dodge City, you top out at 72 — warmest spot in the state. Southwest winds gust to 24 miles an hour this afternoon, especially across the south. Tonight stays mild, dropping to the upper 30s west and mid-to-upper 40s elsewhere. Now here's where it gets wild. Monday brings near-record heat. Highs push into the upper 70s statewide — some spots flirt with 80 degrees. That's 29 degrees above normal for early March. Kansas City has a coin flip chance at breaking its 77-degree record from 2021. Tuesday continues the warmth with highs in the upper 70s to near 80. But change is coming. A strong cold front sweeps through Tuesday evening, bringing showers and thunderstorms. Eastern Kansas faces the highest storm chances — some could be strong to severe. Heavy rainfall is possible. Wednesday cools dramatically. Highs only reach the low 50s behind the front. That's a 30-degree drop in 24 hours. Thursday rebounds to the low 60s with sunshine. Friday stays pleasant in the mid-to-upper 60s. One heads up — spring forward tonight. Clocks move ahead one hour at 2 A.M. and with the spring equinox just 12 days away, we're gaining daylight fast. Soak in that sunshine today. The roller coaster starts tomorrow. See you this afternoon.
