Kansas Weather March 4 Morning - Dense Fog Advisory

from The Kansas Weather Podcast

Good morning. Kansas. I'm Aaron Jolly. That damp gray outside your window? that's the aftermath of nearly two-tenths of an inch of rain overnight. Temperatures held steady in the low 40s. And now we're dealing with the fog that settled in behind it. In the next 24 hours. If you're driving through central Kansas this morning, take it slow. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 11 A.M. For areas along and east of Highway 83. Visibility has dropped below a mile in spots. Here's how today shapes up across the state. Northeast Kansas stays gray and damp with drizzle possible through the afternoon. Highs reach 53 degrees. South Central Kansas sees rain showers likely this morning, tapering off by midday with a high near 50 degrees. Western Kansas has the best shot at some breaks in the clouds this afternoon with a high of 54 degrees. Tonight, that fog could return. Lows drop to 34 degrees out west and hold in the lower 40s east. By the way, look up tonight if the clouds break. We've got a full moon. Thursday brings a dramatic warm-up. Highs surge into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees statewide. Enjoy the relative quiet. Because Thursday night into Friday, our weather pattern turns active. A strong storm system brings rounds of showers and thunderstorms Thursday night through Friday. Some storms could be severe, especially Friday afternoon and evening. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. We're also watching for locally heavy rainfall. The cold front sweeps through Friday night, dropping temperatures back into the 50s for Saturday. Sunday and Monday look sunny and warm again with highs rebounding into the 70s, even approaching 80 degrees in western Kansas by Monday. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
