Kentucky Weather 3/6 Morning - Flood Warning
from The Kentucky Weather Podcast
Good morning. Kentucky. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you'll feel something that doesn't belong in early March. That thick, muggy warmth clinging to everything. We woke up to 60 degrees and scattered showers with a few rumbles of thunder before sunrise. That early rain cleared fast, leaving us with partly cloudy skies and a mild start. But here's where it gets wild. We're about to blow past normal by 41 degrees. South Central Kentucky hits 84 degrees this afternoon — the hottest spot in the state. Eastern Kentucky climbs to 83. Central Kentucky reaches 80. North Central Kentucky tops out near 81. That's not just warm. That's record-breaking territory for early March. Southerly winds gust to 22 miles an hour, pumping that warm air in all afternoon. Tonight stays mild, only dropping to the mid 60s. You won't need a jacket. Saturday flips the script hard. A cold front barrels in with showers and thunderstorms starting mid-morning. Rain becomes likely by midday, with a few storms possibly turning strong. Damaging winds are the main concern. Highs reach the low to mid 70s before temperatures crash Saturday night, falling to the upper 40s to low 50s. Sunday dries out nicely. Partly sunny skies return, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Eastern Kentucky sees early morning rain chances, but most of the state stays dry. Looking ahead, unsettled weather moves back in Monday night through Wednesday. Waves of showers and thunderstorms roll through. Highs stay in the low to mid 70s. Thursday finally brings drier air and cooler temps in the low to mid 50s. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts. See you tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast See you tomorrow.
