Kentucky Weather 3/7 Morning - Flood Warning Follies

from The Kentucky Weather Podcast

Good morning. Kentucky. I'm Aaron Jolly. Spring is teasing us today, folks. We’re waking up to a statewide average of 67 degrees. But don't get too comfortable. A cold front is barreling in, bringing a wild ride of thunderstorms and a temperature rollercoaster that’ll have you digging out a jacket by Sunday. North Central Kentucky is first in line. Thunderstorms fire up by 9 A.M., peaking around 1 P.M. With a guaranteed soaking. You'll see gusts to 32 miles an hour—enough to rattle the windows—before highs near 74 crash to 47 overnight. Sunday brings sunshine, but it feels like a different season with highs only in the mid-60s. Moving into Central Kentucky, storms roll in by late morning. The worst hits around 3 P.M. With gusts to 33 miles an hour. Temperatures starting near 76 tumble to 51 tonight. Sunday offers a brief, sunny break at 63 degrees, but keep that umbrella handy. South Central Kentucky sees the most intense action. Thunderstorms explode between 11 A.M. and 6 P.M., with heavy rain and gusts to 31 miles an hour. You'll hit 76 degrees today before dropping to 51 overnight. Sunday stays calmer, but the pattern repeats with more storms midweek. Over in Eastern Kentucky, it’s a tale of two halves. Morning fog gives way to scattered storms and highs near 81. Tonight gets weird—rain moves in as temps actually rise overnight to 63. Sunday stays wet with highs in the upper 60s. Looking ahead, this isn't a one-day wonder. We’ve got three more rounds of storms coming, including a potential severe setup Wednesday. By Thursday, highs plummet to the 40s and 50s—a 30-degree drop from today. The Ohio River is under a Flood Warning through next weekend, so keep an eye on rising water. Enjoy today's warmth—well above normal for early March—because the pendulum swings hard. Charge your phones before tonight's storms. See you tomorrow. See you this afternoon.
