Kentucky Weather 3/9 Midday - Flood Warning
from The Kentucky Weather Podcast
Good afternoon. Kentucky. I'm Michael Mosby. Step outside right now and you're already feeling 50s. That morning fog has lifted. And we're in for a gorgeous afternoon. Highs today hit the low to mid 70s — running about 35 degrees warmer than usual for early March. Lexington hits 73 under sunshine. Bowling Green reaches 76 with partly sunny skies. Eastern Kentucky also climbs to 76, with the calmest winds of the day. Up near Louisville, expect mostly sunny conditions and 74 degrees. Breezy southwest winds pick up this afternoon, gusting to 24 miles an hour in spots. Tonight brings increasing clouds and a chance of storms. Lows stay mild in the upper 50s to low 60s statewide. South-central Kentucky has the best shot for thunderstorms after 7 P.M. Other areas see scattered storms developing after midnight. Tuesday stays warm but unsettled. Highs climb into the upper 70s — near 80 in eastern Kentucky. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible, mainly before noon. Most areas stay mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of rain. Wednesday is the big story. A strong cold front barrels through with widespread showers and thunderstorms. Heavy rain is likely — we could see 1 to 2 inches statewide. Gusty winds develop, with gusts to 29 miles an hour. Highs reach the mid to upper 70s before the front arrives. Behind that front. Thursday brings a dramatic cooldown. Highs crash to the upper 40s and low 50s. A few morning rain showers taper off, then sunshine returns. Friday through the weekend looks pleasant. Highs rebound into the 60s Friday and Saturday, then climb back to the 70s Sunday. Another storm system could bring showers Sunday afternoon. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts. See you this evening.
