Kentucky Weather March 3 Morning - Flood Watch

from The Kentucky Weather Podcast

Good morning. Kentucky. I'm Aaron Jolly. Folks, that warm front parked along the Ohio River is running the show today. Think of it like a gate swinging open and shut. Right now it's letting mild, soupy air flood the state. You walked outside to 65 degrees and gray skies this morning. That damp chill? It cuts right through a jacket even though the thermometer says spring. In the next 24 hours. The front slides south tonight and drags storms behind it. North Central Kentucky catches the worst of it. Thunderstorms roll in after midnight with heavy rain. Half an inch to three quarters of an inch likely. Lows near 56 degrees. Down in Central Kentucky, rain chances sit closer to a coin flip tonight. South Central stays the warmest pocket. Highs push 73 degrees this afternoon with just a slight chance of showers after 11 P.M. Over in Eastern Kentucky, clouds thicken and rain creeps in after midnight. Lows around 55 degrees. Wednesday is where things get spicy. Showers and thunderstorms go statewide. North of the Mountain Parkway, a few storms could pack hail and gusty winds by late afternoon. Highs climb into the low to mid 70s. Keep your weather app handy. Now the week ahead reads like a plot twist. Thursday and Friday? Near record warmth. We're talking 80 degrees in spots. Your AC might kick on for the first time this year. But don't get comfortable. Saturday a strong cold front barrels through with widespread storms and flooding concerns. Temperatures tumble back to the 60s by Sunday. One more thing worth noting. The spring equinox is just two weeks out. And we're gaining over two minutes of daylight every day now. Winter's grip is slipping. I'll be tracking those Wednesday storms all night. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
