Relationships between knowledge and understanding

Relationships between knowledge and understanding
Translating Illness Oxford University What do medicine and translation have in common? In what sense, and to what extent, is translation used in contexts as different as the transfer of meaning from one language (or medium) to the other, the concept of knowledge translation, and the process of protein synthesis? How will a nuanced understanding of translation help us live a healthier, happier and longer life? In this newly-launched seminar series, we will explore these questions in an interdisciplinary way, with the aim to endorse, promote and even inspire translation outside our areas of expertise, and our common understanding. Dr Marta Arnaldi is a Laming Research Fellow at The Queen’s College, Oxford. She is PI and convener of Translating Illness, a project that is kindly supported by Wellcome Institutional Strategic Support Fund and John Fell Fund, University of Oxford. Modelling with first order differential equations - for iBooks The Open University This unit lays the foundation of Newtonian mechanics and in particular the procedure for solving dynamics problems. The preresquisite skills needed for this unit are the ability to solve first and second-order differential equations, a knowledge of vectors, and an understanding of the concept of a force This study unit is just one of many that can be found on LearningSpace, part of OpenLearn, a collection of open educational resources from The Open University. Into the Kn/own/ Max Planck Institute for the History of Science - MPIWG Welcome to "Into the Kn/own/" – the podcast that will challenge the way you think about knowledge and its ownership. Host Emily Tsui takes her listeners on a journey behind the scenes of the volume "Ownership of Knowledge." In each bite-sized episode, she introduces one chapter from the book and delves into the captivating stories and real-life cases that fueled the research behind it. Join her as Emily explores how the "kn/own/able" concept comes to life in various fields, uncover the big questions that continue to intrigue researchers and gain fresh perspectives on our understanding of knowledge ownership - from genetics to ethnography, from education to copyright law, and from ancient Chinese history to museum heritage.Website: https://www.knownable.org Thinking Machines: AI & Philosophy Daniel Reid Cahn “Thinking Machines,” hosted by Daniel Reid Cahn, bridges the worlds of artificial intelligence and philosophy - aimed at technical audiences. Episodes explore how AI challenges our understanding of topics like consciousness, free will, and morality, featuring interviews with leading thinkers, AI leaders, founders, machine learning engineers, and philosophers. Daniel guides listeners through the complex landscape of artificial intelligence, questioning its impact on human knowledge, ethics, and the future. We talk through the big questions that are bubbling through the AI community, covering topics like "Can AI be Creative?" and "Is the Turing Test outdated?", introduce new concepts to our vocabulary like "human washing," and only occasionally agree with each other.Daniel is a machine learning engineer who misses his time as a philosopher at King's College London.
