Labour leader Ivana Bacik visits Sligo to honour the late Tommy Higgins

The leader of the Labour Party, Ivana Bacik, was in Sligo last evening where she unveiled the inaugural Tommy Higgins Community Recognition Award.Deputy Bacik visited Treacy Avenue, the home of the former Sligo Labour Party Councilllor.He served as  councillor on both Sligo Corporation and Sligo County Council, was Mayor three times and was also a Freeman of Sligo.The annual award will recognise the community efforts of an individual, and the first award went to Vincent Hopkins.Deputy Bacik said she was delighted to be honouring and remembering the late Cllr Higgins.
