Lack of resources leads to Donegal losing out in Community Monuments Fund

It’s emerged that Donegal County Council did not have the resources to apply for funding under the Community Monuments Fund. Donegal was the only county in Ireland that didn’t receive any Government supports to help to conserve, maintain, protect and promote local monuments. It’s understood that a number of community groups had applied for funding in Donegal but were unsuccessful because there wasn’t anyone designated within the Council to process the applications. It means that the County has potentially lost out on tens of thousands of euro – Sligo received over €350,000. Chairperson of the Donegal Heritage Forum and Fine Gael Cllr Barry Sweeney says it’s hugely disappointing but is hopeful that the matter will be resolved going forward:
