Lake Wind Advisory | Georgia Weather 6 AM

from The Georgia Weather Podcast

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Georgia Weather Podcast. It's Thursday, February 26th. Folks, that 57 degrees outside right now? Enjoy it while you sip your coffee.. Because a cold front is about to crash the party. Rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds. The whole package. Let's start in Metro Atlanta. Showers roll in early, then thunderstorms fire up by 11 A.M. Peak action runs through 4 P.M. Southwest gusts hit 25 miles an hour. The kind that'll rip your umbrella inside out. High near 65 degrees. Storms linger tonight before fading after midnight. Lows settle around 52. Slide east and you're right in the storm's crosshairs. Rain likely by 8 A.M., thunderstorms through the afternoon peaking around 5 P.M. Highs near 69 degrees with those same 25 mile an hour gusts. A Lake Wind Advisory kicks in from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. with gusts up to 35 miles an hour. If you're anywhere near a boat today, just don't. Now the coast. Savannah and Brunswick, you're the warm kids today. Highs near 73 degrees with just a whisper of drizzle early. But your turn comes tonight. Thunderstorms become likely after 4 A.M. Lows hold in the upper 50s. Friday the front stalls over south Georgia. Metro and eastern regions dry out with partial clearing. The coast stays soggy. Highs mid 60s to near 70. Then the weekend reward. Saturday brings sunshine statewide with highs near 70 degrees. Sunday pushes into the low to mid 70s. That's 43 degrees above normal for late February. Feels like April stole a weekend from the calendar. A few showers possible Monday into Tuesday, but nothing dramatic. One more thing worth noting. We're gaining over two minutes of daylight today. Sunrise at 7:11, sunset at 6:32. Spring equinox is just three weeks out. Keep your phone charged and your wipers ready today. This front means business. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
