LAL #069 — Henry Enrique Tarrio: "My God. My Family. My Tribe."

from Law and Legitimacy

We're joined this week by the inimitable Dan Hull, Esq., the "Hull" in Hull McGuire PC, and the esteemed D.C.-based defense counsel to Mr. Henry Enrique Tarrio. Mr. Tarrio is a complicated guy with a lot to say. And I believe we may have been among the first beyond his inner circle to be informed of Mr. Tarrio's plan to step down as Chairman of the Proud Boys. As of your listening to this episode, Mr. Tarrio has indeed done so. But as you'll hear, his passion for liberty and political advocacy remain and so his aim is true. We are a country divided by tribal identities. And because of that, we've been misled as to the nature of the broader cultural narrative—not just misled as to the true nature of the Proud Boys.  I am persuaded there is a fundamental crisis of legitimacy in this country. And people on both the Left and the Right cannot help but to sometimes look at our government as just another gang.  I am reminded of Saint Augustine's report of an encounter between Alexander the Great and a rank Mediterranean pirate in which Alexander the Great asked the pirate why he terrorized the seas in pursuit of private gain, only for the pirate to turn the question around asking Alexander the Great why he terrorized the Mediterranean in pursuit of his own.  When we are unable to discern between a single institution's naked assertion of power and its legitimate exercise of authority, we find ourselves in the midst of a legitimation crisis. Such is grievous for our republic.  You can find Mr. Tarrio on Telegram and Rumble, where he is set to resume regular streams of his podcast, NBLE Live.  Rate Law and Legitimacy Sixty-Nine Stars wherever you find us.
