LAL Live Part 2: Glenn Conway, Esq. + Leaving Connecticut (NPS May 11)

from Law and Legitimacy

Norm is joined in the second hour by attorney Glenn Conway, a 25-year veteran in the practice of law who is leaving Connecticut based on a breakdown in the traditional structures of its justice system. Norm begins by inviting questions on why America is sending $40B in aid to Ukraine, especially in the midst of such domestic confusion as to what moral obligations we as citizens owe to each other.  Are American interests vitally intertwined with what is happening in Ukraine? What about the downstream effects of COVID-19, runaway inflation, domestic strife in connection with drug addiction, and a porous border.  Norm moves quickly moves to Glenn and asks about the circumstances leading to his upcoming move (to the beautiful state of North Carolina).  Are we ever going to get back to a point where lawyers are actually trying cases? Norm and Glenn spend some time with the unique nature of jury selection in Connecticut, the nature of plea deals, and whether Glenn would ever consider being a judge.  The two entertain listener calls, answering the hard-hitting questions like "how do criminal defense lawyers make money?"
