Let’s Look At The Tape: Space Jam Retrospective | S01E04

from The Schaff Bros · host Nathan Schaffernoth

Schaff Bros. go to the tape and look back on a forgotten classic, Space Jam, because of the recent announcement of LeBron James creating “Space Jam 2”. We look back on a film no one expected and, after viewing, never would forget. Just us as we listened to commentary of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and director Joe Pytka discuss the outlandish story arc that is Space Jam. We go back to 1996 to look at what brought Michael Jordan, at the time, the greatest athlete in sports, and the Looney Tunes on the big screen together. We look at the debut of a new Toon, Lola Bunny, and how she was a precursor to how women have become apart of the basketball culture. Nowadays, more girls/women play or watch basketball because when they saw Lola Bunny it drew them into a sport mostly dominated by men. Also, we look at the other NBA players in this movie such as Charles Barkley before he was Sir Charles. This movie proved one thing, “NBA players need to stick to playing basketball because acting isn’t one of them.” Then, we discuss a bunch of 90’s references from Newman and Pulp Fiction homage to classic Bill Murray before he became a serious dramatic actor. Next, we talk about the classic Air Jordan 9’s and 11’s that are still relevant and popular as if the movie is still playing in theaters. Likewise, the Space Jam soundtrack comes up and so many legendary artist of hip-hop and R&B are on this album that it reads off like a Hall of Fame inductees. So many tracks were great and you can put this album on without having to skip a song. Finally, we look at the overall impact this movie has had in the last 22 years!
