Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid question explored as concerns grow

Despite growing fears around coronavirus in England, the match was allowed to be played in front of 52,000 supporters – which included around 3,000 travelling fans from Madrid, where at the time the virus was rife and where gatherings of more than 1,000 people had been banned. It is impossible to answer whether the match – the last major football game to be staged in England before the country went into lockdown – led to the significant spread of coronavirus in Liverpool. But what Liam, who has covered this story extensively, taking it even to Downing Street, can answer, is what the thought-process was of the authorities before the match, and how it has changed since. He also talks about the investigation launched by Liverpool City Council into the game – and the response he got when he put the concerns felt by many on Merseyside about it to the government.
