She came to America in 2004 with her daughter and new American husband chasing the American dream. She considered family important and worked hard to share her financial resources with her family. In 2019 her daughter graduated from college. She had brought two homes and owned 3 businesses. She had a closet full of clothes for the day when she could travel beyond America. That day never came. The good news is it’s not finished. That message over 2,000 years still touches lives. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems.
