Long-Awaited Drogheda Bus Station Upgrade ‘Not Anticipated’ in 2026 - 08/01/2026

The long-promised upgrade of Drogheda Bus Station is not likely to begin soon, with the National Transport Authority (NTA) confirming that it does not currently envisage any accessibility works proceeding this year and stating that responsibility for major improvements rests with Bus Éireann.The update was provided to Labour TD Ged Nash following a query made in December.In its response, the NTA said that upgrades to Drogheda Bus Station fall outside the remit of its Public Transport Infrastructure Capital Grant scheme, as Drogheda is not located within the Greater Dublin Area. Under the NTA’s Direct Award Contract with Bus Éireann, the national bus operator is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and general upkeep of the station.Deputy Nash joined us on The Agenda this morning to talk to us some more about this.We also got an update on the new driving test centre coming to Drogheda and where things are now with that.
