Louisiana Weather 3/7 Morning - Sudden Showdown Showdown

from The Louisiana Weather Podcast

Good morning. Louisiana. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you’ll feel it. That thick, tropical air is hanging over the state like a heavy, steamy blanket. We're sitting at 72 degrees under overcast skies. And yes, that’s exactly where we started the night too. There's no cooling off here folks, just pure, sticky March warmth. Here comes the stormy showdown. Northwest Louisiana is already in the thick of it with severe thunderstorms rolling through. You're seeing 81 degrees there, but it feels more like a summer squall line. Some of these storms could pack damaging winds, hail. And even an isolated tornado. Definitely not your typical March morning. Down in the Capital Region. Baton Rouge hits 85 degrees with storms firing up by midday. The front stalls nearby, so expect rounds of heavy rain through tonight. Some spots could see over an inch. If you're driving through low-lying areas later, watch for rising water. Southeast Louisiana, including New Orleans, stays milder at 82 degrees. Patchy fog lingers near the coast early, then storms bubble up by afternoon. The real story here's a soggy Sunday. Thunderstorms are likely, with some downpours lasting into Monday. Tonight, storms rumble statewide. Lows only dip to the upper 60s. You read that right—absolutely no relief from the humidity. Looking ahead, the wet pattern sticks around. Monday brings scattered storms, then a brief dry spell Tuesday before another front arrives midweek. By Thursday, we finally cool down. Highs near 70 and lows in the 50s feel almost normal for March. We're gaining nearly 2 minutes of daylight daily. Spring equinox is just 13 days away. Keep those gutters clear today. That heavy rain will test your drainage. See you tomorrow. See you this afternoon.
