Low cost accommodation could be used as an incentive to attract Key Public sector workers

from Ocean FM News Reports

A Sligo Councillor says moves like providing low cost housing to attract staff, could be used in the public sector to address shortages of key workers in the North West.  Proposals in the Programme for Government are indicating that housing will be reserved for key workers such as Guards, teachers, Doctors and nurses in cost-rental developments.  The State-subsidised model offers long-term tenures and stable rents at approximately 25 per cent below local rates. Households will be able to avail of Cost-rental if their net income is less than 59,000 euro per annum in the Country and €66,000 a year in Dublin. Sligo Councillor Donal Gilroy says many companies in the private sector are supplying accommodation to key workers. The Sligo Sligo/ Drumcliff Councillor says such moves should also considered to attract the likes of Doctors, Nurses, and Guards to locations in the North West.
