Luke 16:19-31 - Your Good Things

Sermon for Trinity 1. The Scripture readings are Genesis 15:1-6; 1 John 4:16-21; and Luke 16:19-31.The point of the parable is not for you to make yourself poor like Lazarus was, and the point is certainly not to make yourself like the rich man. The point of the parable is to get you to take your eyes off of the earthly things you either have or don’t have and focus on the eternal things that God gives you in His mercy which cannot be taken away. Remember, where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Mt. 6:21).Whatever blessings you might lose in this life pale in comparison to the eternal blessings and treasures God has in store for you. Your eternal inheritance cannot be taken from you. So, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and every other blessing will be added unto you (Mt. 6:33).
