Dave Soeth came to Manteca in the late ’60s to be a school teacher he and his wife Betsy made a home here in Manteca.  Betsy and Dave married for 53 1/2 years with three kids, 6 grandkids, and an entire career have passed for this educator, coach, Kiwanian st Anthony’s parishioner and so much more, some people are just there and that is who Dave Soeth is to me, someone who has always been here. A comfortable face if you will. After sitting with him for an hour I told Dave he missed his calling as an interrogator, a sense of humor yes it’s there and I’m guessing a very dry flavor of comedy for this man. He is very cerebral, intelligent, his kids will tell you he sacrificed many things for them and his family and to hear him tell it that was the plan all along his brother will tell you the same. I hope this podcast brings some light and laughter and recognition to Dave as at this time in his life any comedy will do his wife died in June. Where will he go, what will he do. I know he’ll be here in Manteca until the end and whatever the end is for Dave Soeth he has lived a life of service and is a 2012 inductee into our Manteca Hall Of Fame.. Here comes another great story about a city hero, just because. And his name is Dave Soeth on the Man About Town Podcast

Henry by O. Henry (1862 - 1910) LibriVox O. Henry wrote over 600 short stories. Naturally I have my personal top 20 stories that just seem to stand out because of their form, writing style and ability to convey real personalities in a very few words. From these 20 I've chosen five that seem outstanding examples of the short story art form. Stories like The Gift of the Magi; The Cop and the Anthem; Man about Town; A Cosmopolite in a Cafe and Mammon and the Archer. So this is a collection of just five O.Henry stories that many people, including me, have loved and remembered over the years. And this time, thanks to LibriVox, I have the enormous pleasure of not just reading them to myself, but also the joy of reading them aloud! What fun, eh?
