I've known this guy for a lot of years, and you can't have grown up, and not known the family name.  Mom got her license many years ago to do real estate.  A spunky lady who managed a couple of beautiful kids.  Dad drove a truck. The family had a trucking business out behind El Rancho Mobile home park.  If you look you can see the barn there today.  Having a hard-working man away from home comes with its own challenges for a mom.  That didn't stop her from creating an empire. Her business first was in the back of the the building facing Main. Think Strop Shop.  Now the family business is run by her son, it is, and always has been a treasured business, not just a real estate and property management company. That was shown recently during the COVID-19 shutdown. Throw people out?  No..  A small-town business "should help its town" says, my guest.  He will tell the story of his mom, Linda Aksland and Aksland Real Estate Linda lives out of state and out of the limelight.. I talked to his Dad who is between Idaho and home for him and his longtime roots to Manteca there's a few friends and family and I thanked him for staying in the family business and continuing to grow things their way at the corner of Yosemite and Main.  He's Jeff Aksland and he is on my show about the Manteca "heavy-hitters"

Henry by O. Henry (1862 - 1910) LibriVox O. Henry wrote over 600 short stories. Naturally I have my personal top 20 stories that just seem to stand out because of their form, writing style and ability to convey real personalities in a very few words. From these 20 I've chosen five that seem outstanding examples of the short story art form. Stories like The Gift of the Magi; The Cop and the Anthem; Man about Town; A Cosmopolite in a Cafe and Mammon and the Archer. So this is a collection of just five O.Henry stories that many people, including me, have loved and remembered over the years. And this time, thanks to LibriVox, I have the enormous pleasure of not just reading them to myself, but also the joy of reading them aloud! What fun, eh?
