Managing Seizures and Antiseizure Medications in Acute Hemorrhagic Stroke

from "Spot the Bleed": An American Heart Association ICH Guideline Refresher Series

Welcome to "Spot the Bleed," an American Heart Association series on hemorrhagic stroke (ICH) guidelines. In this episode, we focus on seizures and antiseizure medications in the medical and Neurointensive treatment of hemorrhagic stroke. Our goal is to equip you with essential knowledge of ICH guidelines and clinical insights to tackle stroke management challenges both before and after hospital admission. Today, we are joined by two leading specialists and Assistant Professors of Neurology, Drs. Sepideh Chagharvand and Cassie Lee Nankee from the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. Drs. Chagharvand and Nankee will guide us through the current guidelines, highlighting optimal treatment options for new-onset seizure activity in acute hemorrhagic stroke patients. New-onset seizures are relatively common in cases of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), occurring in 2.8% to 28% of patients, with most seizures happening within the first 24 hours following the hemorrhage. Their discussion and insights will enhance our understanding as they review a patient case study. This is another Hurrdat Media Production. Hurrdat Media is a podcast network and digital media production company based in Omaha, NE.
