This week's episode we break away from our traditional layout and just have a good ole gab fest! Fanime 2021 was lit! Lady Blerds had a virtual panel called "Representation Matters" where we discussed what it's like being a blerd or poc watching Anime and not seeing ourselves in a positive light, but also about the improvements that have happened over time and how we can maintain this positive trajectory. Whew, what a sentence! Tune in to hear all about how we cope with the struggles of adulthood in a capitalist heteronormative society whilst being Black and a woman. Of course we couldn't get away with not having some sort of Blerd update so if you want to hear us laugh and cry about some weeb ish we got you covered. Last but never least we discuss some of the topics that literally have us singing the blues, among those being the case of Ryan Le-Nguyen, an Asian man in Michigan whose bail was set at a lowly $10,000 after he shot 6 year old Coby Daniel for retrieving his bike from his yard after Ryan chased him with a sledgehammer for playing in the area. The community rallied and his bail was adjusted to 100k. We discuss some tragedies that hit closer to home, SJPD's muder of Demetrius Stanley, and what we can do to help. Whiteness at Work

    Release Date: 09/11/2020

    Authors: Chris Conroy

Description: Whiteness at Work is a podcast that seeks to tell the truth about the ways in which white supremacy and racism creates inhumane environments in our most multiracial institutions: our workplaces. We identify the ways in which the culture of whiteness produces inequitable outcomes, and imposes traumatic experiences on Black, Indigenous, and people of color in the United States. We also look at the ways in which cooperating with racist systems, intentionally or otherwise, dehumanizes white people. We feature guests who are working to expose the ways in which white supremacy and institutionalized racism exist in organizations and who are offering solutions to these problems that are rooted in the foundations of our country.
