Mark 10:17-31 | Jimmy Steele | September 22, 2019

from The Hill Church · host The Hill Church

We apologize as you listen to our sermon this week.. the last 10 minutes is missing due to technical difficulties so we've attached that portion of Pastor Jimmy's manuscript here:  "But in Christ’s kingdom there is a grand reversal of every earthly standard of position, rank and importance. God does not evaluate things in the same way fallen humanity does. As citizens of His kingdom we must think more like Him than the world. As one author says, ―To the general public, the rich young ruler stood first and the poor disciples stood last. But God saw things from the perspective of eternity – and the first become last while the last become first. Those who are first in their own eyes will be last in God’s eyes, but those who are last in their own eyes will be rewarded as first! What an encouragement for true disciples! This is the promise of the gospel. Do you believe it? “a man there was, though some did count him mad, the more he cast away the more he had.” To Follow Jesus you must believe a new promise. You must believe that the things of God far outweigh anything in this life. You must believe that what you are gaining—intimacy with God, forgiveness of sin, adoption into his family, access to the kingdom, and enteral life in heaven—far outweigh anything this world has to offer. If you actually believe you are losing something by coming to Christ, I would ask you to consider if you truly understand the gospel. 2 Cor 8:9 says “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” Gospel— Following Jesus is the call to embrace a new priority. What or how do you prioritize in your life? Discipleship is the call to see and savor Jesus for who He really is. When this happens you will prioritize Him as the center of your life. You will look to Him for your identity. And then you will trust in His provision alone. You will trust in the finish work of Christ in the gospel, nothing else. It alone is what saves you and it alone is what sanctifies you. No part of the Christian life is a work of man. It’s all an act of God’s divine provision we trust in. And then lastly, to follow Jesus you will believe a new promise. You will see beyond the vain promises of this world and live for the glory of Christ. You will sacrifice much knowing you are gaining immeasurably more. Following Jesus requires prioritizing Jesus by trusting in His provision and promise in the gospel. "
