Mark 9:30-10:52 - The Mark of True Discipleship

“If a man wishes to be sure of the road he treads on, he must close his eyes and walk in the dark.” - St. John of the Cross Though they could see they were blind. Though he was blind, he could truly see. This inversion of world reality is the image of true discipleship in the Gospel of Mark. Are we willing to run to Jesus and admit that we need our eyes opened so that we can see? Jesus invites us to follow him along the way, but the way leads to the cross, through the cross, and into the resurrection. This is the hope of Easter that we look forward to but the first step requires relinquishing any notion that we think we can see clearly on our own.
