Me...Guile?
from Enriched Perspectives · host Talesha Wallace, Michael Wallace
In this episode, we explore the dangers of operating with guile. It's important to understand what guile truly is—and to avoid it at all costs. In the Bible, guile refers to deceit, cunning, and dishonesty. It is often contrasted with the virtue of being without guile, which reflects innocence, honesty, and integrity. To be ruthlessly honest with ourselves and others is to live free of guile.Definitions: Guile: insidious cunning in attaining a goal; crafty or artful deception; duplicity. Deceit: the action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth.Scriptures:Gen. 27, Gen. 25:31-34, Gen. 3:1-3Psalm 24:3-5Prov. 26:24-26I Peter 2:1-3, I Peter 2:21-24John 1:45-49Mark 7:21-23Matt. 15:18Jesus considered that absence of guile to be remarkable, presumably because itis so rare. We must cry out like the psalmist in Psalm 120:2, "Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue". Interested in a Bible study? We would love to hear from you! What this episode covers
Guile is used to achieve a desired outcome, often through deception. It is generally viewed negatively, as it can be a tool for manipulation and dishonesty. In contrast, a guileless person is sincere, genuine, and possesses a certain innocence. They are tender rather than hardened, and the truth genuinely matters to them.
