Meet Mission Partner: Metro Relief | S4E4

from But Wait, There's More! · host Legacy Church: Plano, TX

Host, Darien Clark is joined by Pastor, Patrick Iga, and guest, Charlie Leavitt. Charlie first committed his life to Christ in March 1977 in Ankenytown Grace Brethren. When he did, he was told, "wait for the changes - it's gonna be great". So he went home and flushed my marijuanna down the toilet and started reading the bible and praying. He was given zero direction. He began in the book of Genesis, but had no idea what he was reading, so he moved to the back of the Bible and read Revelations. He was then even more baffled. Needless to say, after about a month he went back to his old ways as, "nothing changed". For the next 13 years, he continued to go to church, with no commitment to the Lord... "Unless he was in trouble." Ha! On 8/14/1988 he walked forward at Christian Assembly and gave his life to the Lord. He began serving at church and non-profits almost immediately. He then moved to Dallas in August of 1997 with his family. Charlie has 25+ years of experience in sales and marketing. His area of expertise was in printing of temporary and permanent point of purchase. It was a wonderful career and he found success in the DFW marketplace. During the latter half of the above life, he began volunteering with assorted homeless, prison and food pantries. The experiences changed his outlook and his life... he wanted to serve others. In 2019, Charlie accepted an opportunity to be the Executive Director of The Freeman House (Non-profit Transitional living homes for men and women). The circumstances of getting the opportunity were unfortunate, as his dear friend and founder of The Freeman House passed away unexpectedly. In March of 2021, he accepted a new position at Metro Relief as the Catalyst. August of 2021, he accepted the opportunity to be the Executive Director of Metro Relief's Dallas/Fort Worth operations. Metro Relief is a Mobile Street Outreach non-profit organization. They help people experiencing homelessness get off the streets using Mobile Outreach Teams to meet friends where ever they live. To reach critical masses of people and large encampments they utilize a Relief Bus thats serves as half Social Service office and half soup kitchen. Metro Relief has been doing what they do for ten years in the DFW Metroplex. These things they do. That others may live. Legacy Church is grateful to be in a partnership with a nonprofit in Metro Relief. Together, we can continue to ignite our community on fire to serve those outside, those sleeping rough, those displaced, those forgotten, those accused, and those who are homeless. This is a conversation show about the things we're thinking about, the things we care about, and the things that are important to the life and culture for the people of Legacy Church in Plano, Texas. We pray this season will offer you times of encouragement, laughter, and most importantly a deeper desire to know and love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
