Online scams continue to rise, with criminals using increasingly sophisticated tactics to target people through fake text messages, emails, phone calls and social media, costing victims millions of euro every year.Fine Gael MEP from Meath, Regina Doherty, says the issue has reached epidemic levels and is calling for a coordinated response across Europe to better protect consumers.This week, she brought together banks, online platforms, policymakers and representatives from the European Commission at the European Parliament to discuss practical ways of tackling online fraud, improving accountability and strengthening protections for internet users.The initiative aims to ensure that governments, financial institutions and technology companies work more closely together to combat scammers and reduce the growing number of people falling victim to online fraud.Regina Doherty joined us on The Agenda this morning to talk to us some more about this.
