This weeks special is a ride between deep house and deep tech, and, if you listen closely, you'll notice some Detroit and Chicago house influence. Yulia Niko's Mezcalita is an awesome groover that gets you started the right way on this monday! Quickly falling under the spell of House music, Yulia learned to DJ at the age of 15 and was soon a resident in Sochi, Russia, close to where she grew up. After getting her Law degree, Yulia relocated first to Greece, then New York, where she wrote two albums worth of material which ended up getting her signed to a number of labels. Her break out track, ‘Zurich’, was snapped up by Get Physical to widespread acclaim. No wonder she received a coveted ‘One to Watch’ from Mixmag the same year. In Berlin, where she currently lives, Yulia refocused her attention and wrote another brace of tracks, two of which were picked up by Damien Lazarus’ Rebellion imprint. Now signed to some impressive top-tier labels, Yulia’s studio craft was being recognised by an ever-growing army of high profile admirers including Dennis Ferrer, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, and many others who were playing and charting her music. Besides her incredible DJ and studio skills, Yulia has impressive business acumen. Setting up her first record label, TochnoTechno back in 2016 showed the tougher end of her musical palette and helped her understand the logistics of the business. With Libe Vibe, she is delivering her second label project, supporting young artists. It explores the relationship between the vibe and energy, a sonic experimentation that will bring new and old sounds together collectively. Her latest release, Manifesto EP, is out today on Watergate Records. It comes with three original releases and remixes by YokoO and/or Francesco Mami. Our favorite is the original of "Passion", a percussion-heavy groover with hypnotic vocals. It's our lucky day, Yulia used it in her sensational Mezcalita! Cheers! The bartenders Link up!
