Last Sunday we began our Advent season by thinking together about "The Other Innkeeper." This was the man in Jesus' parable of The Good Samaritan - the person who operated the inn to which the Samaritan took the man he found wounded, nearly dead, beside the road. Today we will look at another person who is truly a large part of the Christmas story, but he is not someone whom we would call our hero. His name is Herod, who tried to eliminate anyone who might take his throne from him. How many people in our day, like Herod, refuse to crown Jesus as king?
