Summary
When describing Todd to someone who doesn’t know him “Modern Renaissance Man” is the best way I can sum him up. One of my favorite things about him is his endless curiously for all things and people. He can (and does!) find the good and interesting in the people he meets and befriends and can ‘talk shop’ with anyone and everyone, whether they are a plumber, CEO, fashion designer or chef. He loves to know how things work and how to optimize any experience or process. I often tease Todd and tell him he reminds me of the mouse from the popular children’s book “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” Todd began his biking journey about four years ago, shortly after our first child was born. As I suspected, he was true to his mouse characteristics in this new world of cycling. “If you give Todd a bike, he’s going to need some gear, nutrition, wheels, bike tools, trainer, race/event entries . etc. etc. - the bike was a small catalyst into an new entire world and he’s passionate about every new page he encounters. In the last few years Todd has thrown himself “all in” to cycling and become part of an amazing community with lifelong friends. I watched as he committed to 5-6 day a week early morning rides, constantly challenging himself to more miles or higher elevations each week. I watched as his body transformed and his focus grew into bettering himself physically, mentally and more. We’ve discovered the crazy world of Lotoja and it’s been thrilling to celebrate his hard work and successes through this grueling day-long race the past couple of years A few months into riding, he found his people and has loved riding with Mi Doule ever since. It’s been inspiring to say the least to see him excel and grow with this group of cyclists that challenge and support each other every day. With the huge time and energy commitment Todd’s invested into cycling, I can honestly say it has made him a better person in all aspects of his life. He is healthy, present, energized and completely engaged with his family, friends and career. We welcomed our third baby last week and needless to say he’s had long, sleepless nights and still has made time and put effort into early mornings on the saddle. I can’t think of a better way his cycling story could have landed and can’t wait to see where it leads from here. History, Purpose, Mission
Release Date: 11/16/2020
Description: The Mi Duole Cycling Team was established in 1984 and is one of the longest established road cycling clubs in Utah. Team members are mainly rooted on the east bench of Salt Lake City, and most team rides take place in one of the four canyons connected to the valley: Emigration Canyon, Mill Creek Canyon, Big Cottonwood Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon. The team name is “Mi Duole”, which translates from Italian to mean “I ache” or “I’m suffering.” The name has molded the team’s culture over the years as it takes pride in epic training rides consisting of most or all the major climbs around the Salt Lake Valley. Mi Duole Cycling is committed to developing the sport of cycling and cultivating a positive lifestyle. Each year we organize several cycling events in the community and also support a variety of charities. The purposes of the Mi Duole Cycling are to provide a consistent group of skilled riding partners and camaraderie for long weekend rides and mid-week training; to provide opportunities to race and / or participate in organized rides as a team; to share wisdom and experience to riders of all abilities; and to train and push each rider to become better while having fun. LOTOJA continues to be a huge part of what makes Mi Duole who we are. Many founding members of the team have participated in 20+ LOTOJA events. In 2019 the team had over 45 members race the event with many placing in the top 10 of their categories. Mi Duole conducts regular weekly training rides throughout the week. Details about our weekly rides and the routes are sent through our weekly email newsletter and team GroupMe messenage. ”Enjoy the Journey” with Dr. Dean Walker
Release Date: 01/04/2024
Description: Dean “the machine’ Walker is one of the greatest humans on Planet Earth! Although Dean may not be a Mi Duole OG, he is a cycling OG and fits right in with the Mi Duole tribe. Dean is a cycling legend in his own right and has notched his place in the annals of Mi Duole with putting the “O” in Stoopid, like many of us, with great cycling feats and concomitant cycling injuries. Dean has done Leadville at least 2 times. He cracked his pelvis when he crashed doing the Leadville warmup ride and then on a subsequent year’s Leadville training ride, broke several ribs when he decided to take a nap in a loamy patch of bushes in a hairpin on Armstrong, only to find a hidden tree stump underneath! While Dean favors the mountain bike, with the Local Legend up the Rattlesnake hairpins, he is no stranger to the road. He has competed in several LOTOJA’s and is a regular up the summer Thursday Big Cottonwood/PC loop sufferfest. Dean has a penchant for sweet bikes, which include a custom hand-painted Open gravel whip from Italy. All of Dean’s cycling feats are inconsequential relative to the real man that he is. Dean is a man of God and the most generous, loving, humble, kind person you will ever meet. And oh, by the way, did I mention that he’s an amazing surgeon? Dean is your go-go guys for shoulder, hip and knee replacements. I can now do head-shoulder-knees-and toes with the best of the 6 year olds! More importantly, Dean is a man of honor and integrity. He is a loyal friend and will offer you the jersey off his back whenever you need it. I’m humbled so see how Dean is currently making a very sweet concoction of lemonade with the lemons he’s recently been given. Dean is a rock. Dean is your Wingman. He is a genuine friend and it is my honor to consider him one of my best friends. I present to you, Dean Walker; the man, they myth, and the OG of true Italian backyard brick oven pizza
