Moment of Meditation: Ark's Roof (Genesis 6:16)

Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. (Genesis 6:16) To survive forty days and nights of steady rainfall, the Ark needed a roof. To survive the storms of this life, the Church also has a roof. The roof serves Christians as a great reminder of God’s salvation. If you look at the roof in most church buildings, it looks like the bottom of a boat turned upside down. The Church serves as the roof for refuge from the cares of the world. Inside, you find salvation in Jesus’ cross. You hear the Gospel being preached in its truth and purity. You see the Sacraments administered according to Christ’s institution. These serve as the roof where you can seek refuge under Jesus’ cross for salvation from the world’s storms. Amen.
