Mr. Williams has been married to Nannie Ruth Madison Williams for 58 years and he is the father of six children. Described as a spiritual and civil rights leader, Mr. Williams has made many notable contributions to Monroe County and made positive changes in both local and state government. While serving as a teacher, coach and administrator for almost forty years, he fought for equal pay in the Monroe County Public School System after discovering colleagues were receiving more pay than African-Americans. Working alongside others, he was a pioneer for the first NAACP chapter in Monroe County.
