Dr. Sara Skiba is the Director of Communications at Ape Initiative and a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Kennesaw State University. Dr. Skiba is an expert in great ape behavior and has been working with Kanzi and the Ape Initiative bonobo family for 10 years. Dr. Skiba's research focuses on social communication in humans and our closest living relatives - bonobos and chimpanzees. Dr. Skiba incorporates evolutionary theory, behavioral neuroscience, and cognitive psychology, to better understand the emergence of neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder. As an Autism Speaks fellow, Dr. Skiba is investigating the relation between auditory processing abilities and language skills in autistic children and adolescents.
