Montana Weather 3/8 Morning - 20° Above Normal

from The Montana Weather Podcast

Good morning. Montana. I'm Michael Nally. Folks, today isn't a day to test your luck. We're talking dangerous, destructive winds across the entire state. High Wind Warnings are up everywhere. And this is the real deal. Livingston already clocked 70 miles an hour overnight. The Rocky Mountain Front? Gusts could hit 100 miles an hour this afternoon — that's hurricane force. Central Montana sees gusts to 75. Even out east, where it's calmer, you're still looking at 35 to 50 mile an hour blasts. If you're towing a trailer or driving an RV, stay put. This wind will flip you. Here's the temperature split. Eastern Montana hits 70 degrees this afternoon — nearly 20 degrees above normal for early March. Central Montana reaches 63. Western Montana? Only 54, with rain moving in after 11 A.M. That warmth won't last. A cold front drops south tonight, bringing a sharp cooldown and scattered rain and snow showers. Tonight, the wind eases after the front passes. Lows fall to the low 30s statewide. Eastern Montana could see a brief mix of rain and snow around 10 P.M. Western Montana gets steadier rain through 4 A.M., then transitions to snow. Central Montana? Rain and snow after 10 P.M., with the heaviest snow around midnight. Monday brings more snow. Rain and snow showers are likely, especially in Eastern and Western Montana. Highs drop to the 40s and 50s. Snow continues Monday night, with accumulations under an inch for most valleys, but the mountains could see several inches. Looking ahead. Tuesday brings another chance for snow. Wednesday looks quieter. But Thursday? Another strong wind event is shaping up — possibly even stronger than today. Secure loose outdoor items now. Avoid causing sparks — fire danger is elevated with these winds. And don't forget to spring forward tonight — clocks move ahead one hour. See you this afternoon.
