Mountaineering & Trekking in the Pandemic Era – Covid-19 Risk Mitigation

from Adventures & Mountains | Travel Tips, Gear Reviews & Updates | Into the Wild · host Trek Kit India

The year was 1932 when Frank Smythe wrote the following in his book "Kamet Conquered"  “The pilgrim must brave the heat and disease of the lower Himalayan valleys, and finally the freezing airs from the snow, before he can accomplish his pilgrimage. Some fall by the wayside, and many more perish of cholera, dysentery, typhoid, malaria and other tropical diseases. Yet, the greater the tribulation and the immolation greater the virtue and the forgiveness” In this podcast Sameer and Anindya explore the possibility of mountaineering and trekking in the Himalayas while mitigating the risk of covid-19.  With the mountain states across the Indian Himalaya being open to tourism there is now a rush among the romantics and the adventurous to plan and book their much awaited holiday in the hills. They have been separated from their beloved for far too long and now with the ‘unlocks’ announced by the states, peoples’ bags are packed and they are ready to go. Hence, its of utmost importance that we travel responsibly and not recklessly.  As mentioned in the podcast here are the links to trekking and mountaineering guidelines by UIAA and Indian Mountaineering Foundation: UIAA - ADVENTURE TRAVEL AND THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IMF - MOUNTAINEERING AND MOUNTAIN OUTDOOR COVID 19 ADVISORY Thank you for listening, Travel Safe!
