Musician Cody Schram Shares Inspiration, Process & Technique for Creating Art

from A Phil Svitek Podcast - A Series From Your 360 Creative Coach · host Phil Svitek

Cody Schram was the Emerson College Men's Soccer captain when I was a freshman. And even though there was an age difference, we clicked on and off the field. So much so that I boldly asked him to compose a short film of mine years later (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B02F8OYfm5I). He did an incredible job BUT the fact of the matter was, he'd never composed a score before. His background was in music, specifically hip hop. That was how I was introduced to him creatively. Specifically, it was a song called Mankind (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsZiVevhbzA) that he had @WillKnox sing on and @Butch_Caires direct (both were EC teammates). But I knew I liked his musical sense and something about him gave me the sense that he could compose scores too. And he took a chance on me as much as I took a chance on him. Years later, I called him again to compose the score of my film Idyll and the result is fantastic. In this interview, we go wide with the topics. We open with our soccer days and how college influenced Cody. Then we discuss how music has changed over the years. But mainly we talk about the process of art in all facets. That's Cody's passion. He loves learning. He loves creating and it was fun to pick his brain on so many things including how he's handling the pandemic. To check out more of his work, go to his website https://codyschram.carbonmade.com/ or Instagram @_abstraktions_ and his Soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/abstraktions.
