My message to humanity

from My message to humanity · host Veronica Bertolin

I cannot really imagine what type of world we and the future generations will live in. It is hard as of now to even predict what may happen tomorrow. Of course our visions for the future depend on where we were born, what we had to go through during our lives, the people we are surrounded by. And all of this influences our opinions and whether we are optimistic or not.Usually I would call myself a pessimist, as far as my life is concerned, but when I think of the condition our world is in I do not know how to define myself. There are times when all I can see is the bad sides, the crisis, the wars, the violence and all I can feel is fear and desperation; on the other hand I see the good side of people, how we can unite against a common danger and how we are able to help each other. It is like seeing a glimmer of light, of hope coming from behind a curtain that obscures the whole room. But again, I cannot understand whether the former happens more often than the latter and I also have to consider that the reality I live in is very small compared to the whole world, which I can know of only through the distorted and contrasting news we get.My main fear is that we will never wake up from what we live and see every day and that the violence we are fed on a daily basis will become normal, or even worse, something we need in our daily routines. I fear that the violence the future generations are growing in will make them even more violent then we are already. Another concern I have is that there will always be people that live in worse conditions than others and that are judged just because of who they are. And in all of this what worries me the most is that the leaders, the ones that should represent us, seem to be playing with a game, and not with real lives. In contrast with all of these fears I also have some hopes, one of which is that, in contrast with the violence we see, there are a lot of people that are acting against it and against all these difficulties. At times I have the feeling that these people are the majority, probably because I tend to surround myself with them,  but other times I get the idea that they are not enough. My wish is that these people, which I hope I am or will be part of, will influence more and more people, in order to stop this wave of violence. And I think this is humanity. Uniting against a danger that sooner or later will affect us all. To be humans we need to understand that we are not alone, that there is somebody else we need to consider. To be human is to care, to love, to admire. I often think about my role in all of this, whether it's too big for me to do something or if even my small effort can help. With the idea that even from my small reality I can do something, I can be part of this humanity we often mention, I will fight for the rights of everybody, so that we can all be equal. I will fight to live in and leave a world where nobody has to fear being in a lower state than somebody else. I will fight for violence to end. I will fight for a world where we do not have to fear going out of our houses alone or having to hope everyday that it won't be your last one.So if I had to deliver a message to humanity it would be to never stop feeling. To always wonder what it feels like being somebody else, completely different from you. To never judge somebody without knowing. To be patient and never give up even if it gets hard. I do not know what awaits us, but I hope it is better than where we are now. But we cannot only hope, we have to act, we have to fight, we must not be passive because if we are, we become complete puppets in the hands of the ones that want to destroy us. We must stand up. We must be. We must live.
