The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) and the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) recently hosted a webinar entitled, “Know Your Rights: Tribal Citizens, Law Enforcement Encounters, and Practical Steps to Stay Safe” It focused on ensuring Tribal citizens know their rights when approached by immigration agents. NARF & NCAI wanted to provide clear, practical information that Tribal citizens and Tribal nations can use to make informed decisions and navigate uncertainty with confidence - offering supportive, grounded guidance and resources rooted in respect for tribal sovereignty, safety and dignity of our people. Beth Wright is from the Pueblo of Laguna and serves as the Senior Staff Attorney with the NARF team. Matt Campbell is a member of the Native Village of Gambell in Alaska. He is the Deputy Director of NARF. Leonard Fineday serves as NCAI’s General Counsel. He is a citizen of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.
