In his first State of the State address since taking office in January, North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein outlined an ambitious agenda Wednesday night, focusing heavily on Hurricane Helene recovery, education funding and economic development while calling for bipartisan cooperation.Speaking before a joint session of the Republican-controlled General Assembly, Stein, a Democrat, described Hurricane Helene as "by far the costliest storm to ever hit our state" with $60 billion in overall damages."The storm flooded western North Carolina, stealing too many lives from us and devastating too many communities," Stein said.
