Before Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride, he pulled off a covert mission to New Hampshire in 1774, warning locals that British forces planned to seize gunpowder from Fort William and Mary. Over two nights, nearly 400 patriots stormed the fort, seized weapons, and hid them inland—gear later used at Bunker Hill. When British Governor John Wentworth fled in 1776, New Hampshire formed its own Provincial Congress, drafted a constitution, and became the first colony to establish self-rule during the Revolution. Later, Concord, NH, became the ninth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution—casting the deciding vote in the nation’s birth.
