New Mexico Weather 3/8 Midday - Red Flag Warning
from The New Mexico Weather Podcast
Good afternoon. New Mexico. I'm Matt Mullins. Step outside right now and you'll feel that crisp 51 degrees. We dipped to 31 overnight, but sunshine's taking over fast. Albuquerque climbs to 69 this afternoon under clear skies. Light northwest breezes keep things comfortable. Santa Fe tops out near 62. Las Cruces pushes toward 73. The northern mountains stay cooler — low 60s — but still plenty pleasant for early March. Tonight, temperatures crash. Albuquerque bottoms out at 32. Santa Fe hits 31. Las Cruces stays milder at 45. Clear skies mean that cold settles in fast after sunset. Monday brings even more warmth. Albuquerque reaches 76 degrees — well above normal for this time of year. Santa Fe climbs to 67. Las Cruces hits 79. Mostly sunny skies dominate with just a few high clouds drifting through. But Monday night, things shift. Clouds thicken as moisture creeps in from the west. Showers develop, especially across central New Mexico. Tuesday's when it gets interesting. Rain spreads statewide, heaviest along and south of I-40. Albuquerque sees a 40 percent chance with a high of 68. Santa Fe jumps to 60 percent, topping out at 61. Las Cruces gets the wettest conditions — 80 percent chance with highs only reaching 63. Higher elevations could see a rain-snow mix, but accumulations stay light. Winds pick up too, gusting to 24 miles an hour in southern areas. By Wednesday, sunshine returns. Temps rebound quickly — Albuquerque hits 72. Santa Fe reaches 64. Las Cruces climbs to 76. The warming trend continues through next weekend, with highs pushing into the low 80s by Friday and Saturday. Enjoy the sunshine today while you've got it. See you this evening.
