New Mexico Weather March 4 Evening - 28° Above Normal
from The New Mexico Weather Podcast
Good evening. New Mexico. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you'll feel it. 56 degrees under a clear sky. A gorgeous morning across the Land of Enchantment. Tonight, look up — that full moon will have the stage all to itself. In the next 24 hours. But enjoy the calm. Tomorrow brings our headline. An upper-level storm system drops into the Four Corners. Winds crank up across the state. Central New Mexico climbs to 74 degrees under sunny skies. But between 11 A.M. and 5 P.M., patchy blowing dust sweeps through. South winds gust to 20 miles an hour. Head north and the story shifts. Northern New Mexico tops out around 61 degrees tomorrow. South winds gust to 20 miles an hour by early afternoon. Sunny skies, but those winds will be noticeable. Down south, it's the warmest spot. Southern New Mexico hits 77 degrees. That's running about 28 degrees above normal for early March. But with that warmth comes blowing dust between 11 A.M. and 5 P.M. Gusts could hit 32 miles an hour. Here's the critical part. A Red Flag Warning takes effect Thursday from 11 A.M. To 7 P.M. For the Sacramento Mountains. Humidity crashes to 10 to 15 percent. Southwest winds gust 45 to 50 miles an hour. Any fire that starts will spread rapidly. No outdoor burning. Friday brings a sharp cool-down. Central New Mexico drops to 61 degrees. Northern areas fall to 50 degrees with west winds gusting to 40 miles an hour. Southern New Mexico cools to 68 degrees. The weekend looks pleasant with highs in the 60s. Then early next week, rain chances return — especially Monday and Tuesday across the southern half of the state. Spring equinox is just two weeks away. We're gaining over two minutes of daylight each day right now. In Tonight's lows, central areas drop to 37 degrees. Northern New Mexico dips to 36. Southern New Mexico settles at 45. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
