In this episode of the DarshanTalks podcast, we discuss with the guest John Lewis about New Roles in Patient Centricity, patient recruitment, and the host Darshan Kulkarni Pharm.D, MS, Esq. holding an interesting conversation that revolves around patient centricity. John Lewis an Executive Director of Heart Valve Voice US - patient advocacy, nonprofit organization, provides patients with a united voice to improve health for people living with heart valve disease by advocating for early detection, meaningful support, and timely access to appropriate treatment for all people affected by heart valve disease. The conversation began with the effects of the corona pandemic as supposed to the years 2020 and 2021. No one anticipated the 2020 march lockdown, everyone had some plans for the year and now the ending of 2021 it hasn't been a great year too as discussed by the host and guest in the podcast. The expert said that the company was able to plan in the pandemic period, many non-profit organizations required funding and that was lacking due to pandemic also the patient advocacy aspect was discussed wherein patients were informed and all the issues that were pending were taken up by the company to ensure patient centricity. He conveyed the takeaways in the pandemic and one of them was research advocacy that involves patient preference study and evolving new opportunities or directly involved recruiting patients for clinical trials. He explained in detail and drove a comparison between the practicality of what is happening in patient advocacy and whats researchers' line of thought. The concept of patient-focused device or medical development wherein one is taking patient thoughts, wishes, and considerations into the design of the clinical trials and outcomes of the clinical trials whilst there exist patient-reported outcomes which means that it can occur during the clinical process or clinical care that may not be considered or quantified in the initial stage. Further, there are patient preferences which is an emerging area. Many pertinent questions were asked regarding patient selection, and the company's overall heart valve outlook towards the patients that were answered by the expert.
