Bachelor Girl in Burma, A by Geraldine Edith Mitton (1868 - 1955) LibriVox Miss Mitton was an unusual English woman of her time. As a published author, this unmarried woman in her early 30s recorded her visit to Burma (and Ceylon) at the turn of the 20th century. Her language is picturesque, and her attitude toward the natives of this country is typical of her era. Burma of the early 1900s was, and still is, a little known and underappreciated destination for those who love to wander the world. Anyone interested in Edwardian travel, attitudes, and women's issues during the Edwardian colonial period will enjoy this travelogue. (Summary by Mary Ann Hadley) Through the Static with Steven the Medium Steven F. Macek If you had one more chance to talk to a loved one who has passed, would you take it? For nearly 10 years, I have been developing a connection to Spirit. I am so grateful to be a bridge between the Spirit world and our day-to-day, physical world—relaying messages and insight from those who have passed on to people seeking answers in the here and now.If you're curious about Spirit, if you've lost someone close to you, if you are afraid of death or wonder what life is like when we cross over—tune in. We do a lot of learning, healing, and laughing. And of course, every episode includes my favorite thing to do: live listener readings! These podcast episodes are the archives of my weekly radio show, Through the Static, on WARA 1320AM out of Attleboro, MA. Fables in Slang by George Ade (1866 - 1944) LibriVox While a columnist for The Chicago Record humorist George Ade penned numerous “fables” which were subsequently collected into books. Fables in Slang is the first of these collections. It contains 26 satirical stories that lampoon phrenologists, idealists, snobs, fanatics and other ignorant fools of the day, most of which still wander through our modern lives. Jean Shepherd considered Ade a predecessor who made writers like James Thurber, Mike Royko, and himself possible. Fables in Slang was first published in 1899 by Herbert S. Stone and Company. (Summary by Gregg Margarite) Unto Others Stephen Woodfin At Unto Others we interview the coolest people you never heard of, regular people who manage their lives a day at a time, work jobs, search for meaning and wonder what lies ahead. They make the best of life and even find time to help those in need.
