North Carolina Weather: 02-21-2026

from The North Carolina Weather Podcast

Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the North Carolina Weather Podcast. It's Saturday, February 21st. Folks, here's the deal. We've got a tale of two states tonight. The Piedmont is sitting pretty in the low 60s right now. Enjoy it. Because things are about to get interesting. Rain rolls into the Piedmont just after midnight and hangs around until about 17 degrees A.M. Over in the Triangle, it starts closer to 2 A.M. and lingers until 9. Winds flip from south to southwest around 17 degrees A.M. Sunday stays breezy and cooler. You're looking at 52 degrees in the Piedmont, 50 in the Triangle. Then temperatures nosedive. Sunday night lows crash to 28 degrees in the Piedmont. Northwest winds gusting to 31 miles an hour will make it feel brutal. Now head west, and the mountains are telling a completely different story. Rain arrives by 10 P.M. tonight. By Sunday morning, everything above 17 degrees,500 feet switches to snow. Winter Storm Warnings are up for Avery County and the high elevations of Mitchell County. Five to ten inches of snow. Advisories cover Haywood, Madison, Yancey, and Swain Counties. Winds howl at 22 to 26 miles an hour with gusts near 46. Wind chills drop to single digits. Near blizzard conditions. If you're heading toward Boone or the Smokies, stay home or pack like you mean it. Here's your heads up for the week ahead. Monday is frigid and windy statewide. Highs barely touch the 40s. Mountain wind chills dip below zero. Tuesday brings sunshine and a slight rebound near 50 degrees. Wednesday feels like spring again with highs around 60. Thursday? Rain and a cold front crash the party. Friday cools back to the low 60s with lingering showers. One bright spot. We gained two minutes and nine seconds of daylight today. Sunset at 6:03 P.M. Spring is creeping closer. Alright. If this forecast helped you plan your weekend, share it with a neighbor. It really does help. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Stay safe out there, folks!
