North Dakota Weather 3/7 Evening - Wind Whiplash Warning

from The North Dakota Weather Podcast

Good evening. North Dakota. I'm Michael Nally. Step outside and you might do a double take. Because this feels like late April, not early March. We're sitting at 43 degrees right now — a whopping 20 degrees above normal — under gray skies. It's a wild start to the weekend. Eastern North Dakota climbs to 62 by afternoon. Central North Dakota is even toastier at 67. Up north, you'll see highs near 60. But you'll not just feel the heat. You'll hear it. Southwest winds howl between 14 and 31 miles an hour. Gusts could hit 38 miles an hour in the center of the state. Tonight brings a weird twist. Temperatures actually rise overnight. Lows only dip to the mid 30s in the east and central, while the north holds in the upper 20s. You might see a few rain showers, but nothing heavy. Sunday is the peak. We hit 62 in the east, 67 in central North Dakota. And 60 up north. But don't get used to it. A cold front sweeps through in the evening, sending temperatures crashing. That front brings rain, possibly mixing with snow up north. The wind stays the main story. A Wind Advisory kicks in at 10 A.M. For western and south-central North Dakota. Gusts could hit 50 miles an hour. Secure the trash cans and patio furniture now. Fire danger is high south and west of the Missouri River. The rollercoaster keeps going this week. Monday highs struggle to hit 40. We're tracking our first real chance of accumulating snow — an inch or two possible in central and southern North Dakota. The rest of the week stays unsettled with highs in the 30s and 40s and repeated chances for flurries. Enjoy the spring tease today, folks. Winter comes back with a vengeance on Monday. See you tomorrow.
